I Heart... the Sacramento River

My husband and I love to drive.  We load up the dog, a few drinks, and the camera and then hit the road.  If we only have a few hours and just want to get out of the city, we head to the Sacramento River Delta.

Within fifteen minutes we are out of traffic and smog and driving along country roads surrounded by orchards, vineyards, and the river.

Just a few weeks ago we set out to watch the sunset on the river, and these are the photos I took.  It was a gorgeous evening ... no bugs, no traffic ... just the smell of the earth and the water and a full moon above.

I've created a map with some of our favorite spots along the Sacramento River.  Enjoy!

I love the fact that you take advantage of getting out and about and that you can find such splendor so close to the city!

I have very fond memories of houseboating on the delta with the YMCA as a teenager. That is definately a special way to see the delta up close!

What beautiful photos, and such a nice way to get away from it all at the end of a busy day. Great idea!

Looks, and sounds, like a great evening.

Tim and I like to go out on drives like this, but we have to drive far longer from home to get out to some place as serene as this.

Beautiful shots! My mom talks about growing up on the Sacramento Delta! We haven't been able to spend any time there yet.

Gorgeous, gorgeous photos. I've always thought I'd like to take a riverboat trip on the Sacramento, but a drive looks just as tempting. It's on the list.

Welcome back! If you haven't already, I hope you'll subscribe to my RSS feed so we can stay in touch. Ciao!
